Taif & Abha
What to see
The mountains of the south-west: Taif with its rose farms and the Al Hada cable car, Abha with Souq Al Thulatha and the Al Miftaha artists’ village, the stone towers of Rijal Almaa and the heritage villages of Al Baha, including Dhee Ain.
Best time to visit
April to September: 20–30 °C in the mountains while the coast is hot. Taif’s roses bloom in March and April. Winter nights are cold.
Travel tips
It is cooler in the mountains than on the coast, so pack a layer even in summer. The roads are winding, so tell your guide if you get car-sick. Wear comfortable shoes in the heritage villages, where the lanes are stony and steep.
FAQ: Taif & Abha
When do the roses bloom in Taif?
Usually from late March to late April, when farms harvest the petals to make rose water and oil.
How do I get to Abha and Taif?
We fly Scat Airlines from Almaty to Jeddah. Taif is about 2 hours by car and Abha is a domestic flight away; we arrange everything for your dates.
Are these tours suitable for older travellers?
Yes, though heritage villages have steps and slopes. Let us know in advance and we will adjust the pace and route to reduce walking.
