About the destination

Makkah & Madinah

What to see

The two holiest mosques of Islam: the Grand Mosque with the Kaaba in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. Also Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira, the Clock Tower Museum, Quba Mosque and Mount Uhud overlooking Madinah. The Haramain high-speed train links the two cities.

Best time to visit

November to February: around 25–30 °C by day, comfortable for Umrah. Summer brings heat above 40 °C, and Ramadan and the Hajj season are very crowded.

Travel tips

Entry to Makkah is permitted to Muslims only. Umrah requires a permit via the Nusuk app and the Rawdah a separate booking; we arrange both in advance. Wear comfortable shoes and carry water, as there is a lot of walking.

FAQ: Makkah & Madinah

Do I need a permit for Umrah?

Yes, the permit is issued in the Nusuk app for a specific date and time. In our Umrah programmes we obtain it for you.

How do I get from Madinah to Makkah?

The easiest way is the Haramain high-speed train, about 2.5 hours. Tickets and station transfers are included in our programmes.

What should I wear in Makkah and Madinah?

Men should cover knees and shoulders and wear ihram for Umrah. Women should wear loose, modest clothing and a headscarf. Choose comfortable shoes that are easy to slip off.
